Black Stand

Richard Pryor (1940-2005) was a black stand-up comedian who revolutionized the art of comedy. Celebrities for his direct style, the use of profanity, bold and examination of racism, Pryor was as much a political satirist as a stand-up comedian.

Comedy style Pryor was undoubtedly influenced by his childhood environment. Born in segregated Peoria, Ill., and grew in her grandmother's brothel. His mother was a prostitute and his father was a pimp. When I was ten, Pryor's mother abandoned him, and was raised by his grandmother, who beat him frequently. Expelled from school at 14, Pryor came very soon in the army, where he was imprisoned for assaulting a racist white soldier.

When I was 22, Pryor moved to New York and began performing stand-up comedy in clubs. In these early days of his career, who modeled his style after Bill Cosby, trying to please his audience all in white and avoid controversial topics. But it was Pryor Cosby, and became increasingly concerned by the need to please her mainstream public and repress his true identity. Though succeed and be popular, he was tortured and used drugs to excess.

In 1967, Pryor was created to perform in the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, when he had an epiphany. He looked at the crowd, exclaimed: "What the f * ck am I doing here?" And left stage. Later, Pryor's style began to change into something more nervous and began using profanity in his sketches.

In 1969, Pryor went to Berkeley, California, the heart of the counterculture. There, he learned from Malcolm X and the Black nationalist movement, the revolutionary leaders friendship with Ishmael Reed, Cecil Brown, and Huey P. Newton, and leaders of the Black Panther Party. In this environment, Pryor gained a new perspective on your personal life and the meaning of his comedy craft.

At this time, Pryor stand-up performances are profoundly changed style. Avoid using black stereotypes in their drawings, but racism became his theme main. He attacked the humiliation and powerlessness that the black experience in America and imitated insensitive white characters. He was not afraid to use bad language, talking of uncomfortable issues, or make the painful comedy of real life experiences. It is often used their personal lives as material for his stand-up performances. He turned his own experiences with sex, drug abuse, law enforcement, and even an incident in which caught fire after freebasing cocaine comic. Criticism Pryor without fear of racism in American society and its willingness to talk about his own humiliation transformed the art of stand-up comedy to the comedians in black and white alike.
