Sainsbury's has announced that as of February 5 no longer sell eggs from caged hens. Sainsbury's is the first major retailer to make such a promise to guarantee more than half a million chickens and not kept in battery cages.

The announcement comes a year ahead of the store original 2010 commitment means less than 2.5 million eggs from battery farm will be available each week in the UK. Sainsbury's is the retail larger to completely remove the battery farmed eggs from their shelves.
